Evaluation:

Take a deep breath.

Meeting a new medical provider can be scary, especially if your previous experiences with different providers have been less than stellar.

During your first visit, our therapists will take the time to listen and get to know you.

‘What brings you in today,’ is a common question asked during your first visit. Your answer to that question may guide the therapist to ask about your health history, interests, job, home life, and other lifestyle factors like stress, nutrition, and hydration since all of these things could be playing a role in your current aches or pains.

We also want to learn how your pain experience impacts your life. We want to know what you avoid or have stopped doing because of your pain or fear that it will return.

We want to learn about your goals and expectations to make sure we’re on the same page.

After you feel like you are fully heard and the therapist clearly understands your story, you will be asked to move. Seeing how you sit, stand, walk, lift, and perform your home, job, and leisure tasks and assessing movements that aggravate and alleviate your symptoms are essential to our evaluation.

It is also important to use our hands and other special instruments to assess range of motion, muscle strength, and tissue quality to help us determine what is happening. Please wear appropriate clothing that you can move in, which may give us the best access to the area of interest.

Once we have completed the assessment, we will discuss our findings with you and create a plan of attack together.

Remember, the relationship we have is a partnership. We expect you to be an active participant in your recovery journey. That means we want you to provide us with feedback, let us know what’s working and what’s not, ask questions, and help us modify the plan to match your interests and the time you dedicate to your home exercise program. We have high expectations for our patients because we want you to meet your goals as quickly as possible to get you back to what you love to do while decreasing your healthcare costs.

The evaluation will set us up well for our future visits.

Treatment and Follow-ups:

  1. Reduce Pain. We can utilize things like manual therapy, trigger point dry needling, therapeutic cupping, gradual movement, and strengthening to help you decrease pain. Decreasing and modifying your pain experience to allow movement is the key to success!

  2. Restore movement and function. As your pain reduces, we will focus on increasing your range of motion, building strength, improving balance, and restoring confidence in your abilities.

  3. Revive your passions. The program will ramp up depending on your ultimate goal as your strength, mobility, and balance improve. Dream big!

*Set reasonable expectations for yourself and your plan. The journey can ebb and flow, but you will succeed if you stay positive, provide feedback, and put in the work!
