Physical Therapy for MOMs
Supporting You Through Pregnancy, Birth, and Beyond
At Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, we know motherhood is one of the most rewarding and physically demanding journeys you’ll ever take. Your body goes through incredible changes before, during, and after pregnancy, and we’re here to help you feel strong, confident, and supported every step of the way.
What Is Pelvic Physical Therapy?
Pelvic physical therapy focuses on the muscles, joints, and connective tissues of the pelvic floor, the group of muscles that stretch from the pubic bone to the tailbone. These muscles:
- Support the pelvis and pelvic organs
- Provide core and trunk stability during movement
- Play a key role in bladder, bowel, and sexual function
When these muscles are weak, tight, or not working as they should, you may experience issues such as back or hip pain, incontinence, or delayed postpartum healing.
Why It Matters for Moms
The goal of pelvic physical therapy is to:
Reduce pain in the back, hips, and SI joint
Prepare your body for labor and delivery
Promote faster recovery after birth
Refine lifting, carrying and feeding techniques
Regain control and confidence with daily activities
Improve overall health and fitness during and after pregnancy
Unresolved pelvic floor dysfunction can also contribute to chronic low back or hip pain; addressing it early can help you move and feel better long-term.
Benefits of Exercise during pregnancy
Following guidance from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, staying active with safe, guided physical therapy may also help:
- Ease constipation
- Decrease risk of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and cesarean birth
- Support healthy weight gain
- Strengthen your heart and overall fitness

our approach:
We take a personalized, evidence-based approach to care:
Comprehensive Evaluation: With your permission, we assess your pelvic floor muscles, core strength, hip strength and mobility, back strength and mobility, posture and overall movement to identify the root cause of your symptoms. This may involve an internal exam; however, not all evaluations require this element.
Individualized Treatment Plans: Everyone’s needs and goals are different. Your care plan may include:
Exercises to stretch tight muscles and strengthen weak ones
Soft tissue work and joint mobilization to improve movement and decrease pain
Optimize body mechanics and safety with functional movement and activity
Electrical stimulation and biofeedback
How to adjust your environment to promote safety and protect bone health
Exercises to address the surrounding muscles and to improve overall health and quality of life
Breathing strategies to help maintain abdominal tension while lifting
3. Holistic Support: Beyond the physical, we provide you with emotional guidance and education to help you feel empowered and informed about your health and any decisions or tough conversations that you may need to have.
