Ounce of Prevention, Pound of Cure

Joshua Sanders MS, LAT

Here's a recipe for success: an ounce of prevention, for a pound of cure.  As you start to return to your day-to-day work routine, keep in mind that posture is always important, and preventing poor posture from the start is often the best attack.  When driving your car, sitting at your desk, finishing a major project at your home or normal office, or even utilizing a mobile device, your approach to your task and posture is crucial to orthopedic health. We've outlined the top 10 areas to be aware of when focusing your posture at your desk below, and our team of industrial medicine specialists (onsite) or occupational therapists (clinic-based) can help you navigate common postures.  Often people don't realize that their posture is playing a role that is so integral to their overall health.  Staring at your phone in an awkward position at night can cause thumb/wrist and neck concerns, staring at a screen at an improper height can aggravate and affect your neck and upper back regions, and poor lifting of heavier objects can cause both acute and chronic traumas that we could otherwise avoid.  Let us help you get prepared.  We offer Telehealth appointments, as well as in-clinic appointments, to treat any occupational-related concerns, but also can provide instrumental feedback on the preventative side to decrease future concerns.
